Proposition — Part III
English (Elwes 1883)
He who hates anyone will endeavour to do him an injury, unless he fears that a greater injury will thereby accrue to himself; on the other hand, he who loves anyone will, by the same law, seek to benefit him.
Modern English
Whoever hates someone will strive to do him harm, unless he fears a greater harm will come to himself as a result. And conversely, whoever loves someone will strive by the same principle to do him good.
