English (Elwes 1883)
It is impossible, that man should not be a part of Nature, or that he should be capable of undergoing no changes, save such as can be understood through his nature only as their adequate cause.
Modern English
It is impossible for a human being not to be a part of Nature, or for him to be capable of undergoing no changes save those that can be understood through his own nature alone and whose adequate cause he himself is.
