By virtue (virtus) and power I mean the same thing; that is (III. vii), virtue, in so far as it is referred to man, is a man's nature or essence, in so far as it has the power of effecting what can only be understood by the laws of that nature.

Modern English

By virtue and power I mean the same thing. That is (E3P7), virtue, insofar as it is referred to a human being, is that human being's own essence or nature, insofar as it has the power to bring about certain things that can be understood through the laws of that nature alone.
