Scholium — Part III

Latin

Hinc sequitur homines, quia se liberos esse existimant, majore amore vel odio se invicem prosequi quam alia; ad quod accedit affectuum imitatio, de qua vide propositiones 27, 34, 40 et 43 hujus.

English (Elwes 1883)

Hence it follows, that men, thinking themselves to be free, feel more love or hatred towards one another than towards anything else: to this consideration we must add the imitation of emotions treated of in III. xxvii., xxxiv., xl. and xliii.

Modern English

It follows that men, because they believe themselves free, feel greater love or hatred toward one another than toward anything else. To this we must add the imitation of affects — see Propositions 27 (E3P27), 34 (E3P34), 40 (E3P40), and 43 (E3P43) of this Part.
