An attribute is that which the intellect perceives of substance, as constituting its essence (Def. iv.), and, therefore, must be conceived through itself (Def. iii.). Q.E.D.

Modern English

For an attribute is what the intellect perceives of substance as constituting its essence (E1D4); and so (E1D3) it must be conceived through itself. Q.E.D.
