Proposition — Part IV

Latin

Affectus cujus causam in præsenti nobis adesse imaginamur, fortior est quam si eandem non adesse imaginaremur.

English (Elwes 1883)

An emotion, whereof we conceive the cause to be with us at the present time, is stronger than if we did not conceive the cause to be with us.

Modern English

An affect whose cause we imagine to be present with us now is stronger than it would be if we did not imagine the cause as present.
