Corollary — Part IV
English (Elwes 1883)
We may, under the guidance of reason, seek a lesser evil in the present, because it is the cause of a greater good in the future, and we may shun a lesser good in the present, because it is the cause of a greater evil in the future. This Corollary is related to the foregoing Proposition as the Corollary to IV. lxv. is related to the said IV. lxv.
Modern English
Under the guidance of reason we seek a lesser present bad because it is the cause of a greater future good, and we shun a lesser present good because it is the cause of a greater future bad. This corollary stands in the same relation to the preceding proposition as the corollary of Proposition 65 stands to Proposition 65 itself.
