E5P19D

Demonstration — Part V

Latin

English (Elwes 1883)

For, if a man should so endeavour, he would desire (V. xvii. Coroll.) that God, whom he loves, should not be God, and consequently he would desire to feel pain (III. xix.); which is absurd (III. xxviii.). Therefore, he who loves God, &c. Q.E.D.

Modern English

If someone were to strive for this, he would desire (E5P17C) that the God he loves should not be God, and consequently would desire to feel sadness (E3P19) — which is absurd (E3P28). Therefore whoever loves God cannot strive for this. Q.E.D.
