If anyone conceives that he is loved by another, and believes that he has given no cause for such love, he will love that other in return. (Cf. III. xv. Coroll., and III. xvi.)

Modern English

If someone imagines that another loves him, and believes he has given no cause for that love, which can happen (E3P15C) (E3P16), he will love that other in return.
