Proposition — Part III

Latin

Id omne de re quam odio habemus, affirmare conamur quod ipsam tristitia afficere imaginamur et id contra negare quod ipsam lætitia afficere imaginamur.

English (Elwes 1883)

We endeavour to affirm, concerning that which we hate, everything which we conceive to affect it painfully; and, contrariwise, we endeavour to deny, concerning it, everything which we conceive to affect it pleasurably.

Modern English

We strive to affirm of a thing we hate everything we conceive to affect it with sadness, and contrariwise to deny everything we conceive to affect it with joy.
