Demonstration — Part II

Latin

English (Elwes 1883)

To knowledge of the first kind we have (in the foregoing note) assigned all those ideas, which are inadequate and confused; therefore this kind of knowledge is the only source of falsity (II. xxxv.). Furthermore, we assigned to the second and third kinds of knowledge those ideas which are adequate; therefore these kinds are necessarily true (II. xxxiv.). Q.E.D.

Modern English

In the preceding scholium we assigned to knowledge of the first kind all ideas that are inadequate and confused; therefore (E2P35) this kind of knowledge is the only cause of falsity. We assigned to the second and third kinds all ideas that are adequate; therefore (E2P34) these kinds are necessarily true. Q.E.D.
